TITLE OF PRESENTATION: Creative Uses For Manipulatives, Therapeutic Games/Activities and Demonstrations as Pedagogical Tools and Client Interventions

While the use of hands-on activities for students in a learning environment and clients in a therapeutic environment is nothing new, creative application and development of new therapeutic games, activities and demonstrations (referred to here as “therapeutic manipulatives”) can result in increased learning and retention by social work students and new options when working with children and families. Models and examples developed by students will be shown and demonstrated, and student experiences piloting the interventions and presenting their experiences at a conference for practitioners in New York will be shared. Bring your inner child and come see how familiar games from childhood, many donated by our own university community, have been transformed into creative tools for social workers.
