Mental Health Counseling
Phylis Lan Lin School of Social Work & Counseling

As the world of healthcare evolves, so does the University of Indianapolis’ approach to preparing the next generation of mental health providers. The Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling (MHC) program is specifically designed to equip future mental health care providers with both the knowledge and the hands-on experience to create lasting impacts on their future clients. The generalist track provides students with a solid foundation of knowledge from which they can build through elective courses on topics such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), trauma, and advanced diversity. Students are also encouraged to learn from and network with their future colleagues through a cohort model that brings together students in the program. In addition to traditional classroom instruction, the MA in MHC curriculum includes entire semesters dedicated to clinical practicum and internship experiences in various healthcare settings to ensure students graduate a step ahead in the job market. Upon graduation, students in the MA in Mental Health Counseling Program at UIndy will be prepared to successfully pursue licensure and lead their communities to stronger, healthier outcomes.
I am so glad I chose the MHC Program at UIndy! The professors are wonderful, the classes are engaging and I've graduated with a job I love!
The Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling: Generalist Track is accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC).
Combine Passion with Purpose
Child, Adolescent & Family Counseling Concentration:
The Child, Adolescent and Family Counseling concentration offers in-depth, specialized training designed to equip students with the skills needed to effectively support children, adolescents and their families. Students will gain hands-on experience through supervised internships, ensuring they are ready to make a positive impact.
The students we get from UIndy are some of the strongest we work with, so it’s typically an easy decision when graduation rolls around, as far as whether or not we want to offer them a job! Not only do they come to us with great clinical knowledge and skills, but they have a passion for the work and the self-awareness required to become really great therapists. We really value our partnership with UIndy and look forward to many more years of collaboration!
