The Advisory Board at the University of Indianapolis School of Nursing is a core group of influential individuals whose purpose is to inform the SON of new and current clinical practices that the SON may influence with how we educate our graduates. By building a strong partnership between the School and its broader constituencies, UIndy seeks to go beyond its current position of strength to reach its next level of excellence as a leader in nursing education, scholarship, and clinical practice. The SON Advisory Board is responsible for ensuring that the UIndy School of Nursing:
- Maintains an open dialogue with its key constituents
- Advances the SON goals in accordance to the missions of the University
- Identifies and develops resources to support that mission
- Educates nurse graduates to be prepared to enter a complex work environment
- Engages in strategic planning and maintains educational programs of the highest quality
Advisory Board membership is comprised of influential professionals who represent healthcare within the community, those partnerships impacted by the program and who impact the program.
The School of Nursing has determined that completion of the Bachelors in Nursing (Traditional and Accelerated Second Degree programs) prepares a student to take the national licensure examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN®). Passage of the national exam is required for licensure in all 50 U.S. states and U.S. territories. It is each individual’s responsibility to understand, evaluate, and comply with all requirements relating to national licensure exams for the state in which he or she intends to practice. Educational requirements may vary widely including, but not limited to, the number of clinical hours required by the state as well as specific coursework. To obtain the contact information for the nursing professional licensing boards, please see the National Council of State Boards of Nursing contact page.
For questions regarding Registered Nurse (RN) licensure, please contact Dr. Cathy Miller (crmiller@uindy.edu), Interim Undergraduate Program Director.
Select graduate programs that lead to professional certification may be required for advanced nursing practice within some states. It is each individual’s responsibility to understand, evaluate, and comply with all requirements relating to national certification exams for the state in which he or she intends to practice as educational requirements may vary depending on state nursing practice acts.
For questions regarding advanced practice licensure, please contact Dr. Diane Smith (dsmith@uindy.edu), Graduate Program Director.
Students should review the specific academic requirements for the program in which they are enrolling, including those related to practicum/internship as well as pre-qualifications for licensure such as the need for a criminal background check. We highly recommend that students contact the applicable licensure board(s) in their state of residence or in the state where they intend to obtain a license before beginning an academic program that results in licensure and prior to beginning any internship/practicum. Many licensure boards require more than successful degree completion to obtain a license. Please be advised that state laws, regulations, and policies may change at any time. Changes in requirements can impact the program's ability to meet educational requirements for licensure. It is the responsibility of the student completing the licensure program to check with the licensing board(s) in their state of residence or in the state in which they intend to obtain a license for the most recent information and requirements.
For additional licensure information for each state, please see our UIndy School of Nursing Professional Licensure Disclosure.
