Admission to the BSN program

High school prerequisites

All applicants to the BSN program need to have completed at least two semesters of high school biology, two semesters of high school chemistry, eight semesters of high school English, six semesters of math (such as algebra I and II, geometry, and/or calculus), and a modern language class such as Spanish, French or German.

Application for clinical courses

Once you have been accepted to UIndy, you will be assigned a pre-clinical coach/academic advisor, who will help you plan the courses you'll need to take your freshman year. Then, you must apply by mid-April of your freshman year to be considered for fall clinical courses and by mid-August to be considered for winter clinicals. When you have been admitted to the clinical phase of the program, then you will be assigned a nursing faculty advisor.

Consideration for admission to the clinical phase is based on the following criteria:

  • Completion of all freshman year courses, with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • A minimum grade of C in all prerequisites
  • Completion of the HESI Admission Test

* Please note that admission is competitive and fulfillment of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Transfer student application for clinical courses

Once you have been accepted to UIndy, your college transcript will need to be assessed to determine if you have completed all nursing prerequisites. You will not be able to apply for nursing clinicals until all nursing prerequisites are complete. To determine if all prerequisites have been met, you will need to contact Karen Childers at 317-788-3244 or by email at kchilders@uindy.edu. Once all nursing prerequisites are complete, you must apply mid-February to mid-April to be considered for fall clinical admission, or mid-July to mid-August for winter clinical admission.

Consideration for admission to the clinical phase requires a cumulative GPA of 2.82 or higher in all nursing prerequisite courses, as well as completion of the criteria listed above for traditional applicants.

*Please note that admission is competitive and fulfillment of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Curriculum Guides

These curriculum guides outline the different classes you will need to take as a BSN major. The general education guide provides a list of all the classes you need in order to fulfill UIndy’s general education requirements.
