Physical Therapist Assistant
College of Health Sciences

Become a catalyst for helping patients recover and better their quality of life. As a student in the physical therapist assistant (PTA) program at the University of Indianapolis, you will learn how to be a movement expert. You will join a cohort led by faculty recognized for excellence in their field, be immersed in ways to improve real patients’ lives and build your foundation for a rewarding career in physical therapy.
Classes are structured so that full-time students can pursue a concurrent degree if they wish, or part-time students can prepare for their new career while continuing to work during the day. The program blends classroom instruction from faculty active in clinical practice and research with hands-on patient work to help you put knowledge into practice.
Supported by the resources from the Krannert School of Physical Therapy — including a state-of-the-art simulation lab and onsite doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program — you’ll graduate ready to step into any clinical setting as an in-demand PTA professional.
When it came to looking for jobs, I was more highly sought after than other applicants because of UIndy’s track record of turning out high-quality therapists. The program is highly challenging and fast-paced, which ultimately helped me succeed in my fast-paced clinic.
Partnerships to Prepare You: Community Health Network
Practice what you learn in the classroom and build stronger professional relationships with Community Health Network (CHN). UIndy’s partnership with CHN offers students opportunities to collaborate with highly skilled professionals and faculty to gain skills in interacting with real patients.
You can join these professionals at the Health Pavilion, an on-campus clinical facility sporting a 7,000-square-foot rehab center and therapy gym. Undergraduate and graduate students can work directly with patients, gaining clinical experiences right on campus. Coupled with access to expanded research and educational opportunities, UIndy’s partnership with CHN gives you more ways to learn, grow, and develop in the physical therapy field.
After working as a clinician for 20 years, I want to share my passion for patient care with the next generation of professionals. I love to invest in each student and see them blossom into compassionate and skilled professionals who touch the lives within their communities.
Improve Patient Lives From Day One
UIndy’s students have access to our Community Patient Resource Group (CPRG), where more than 80 adult and 50 pediatric individuals with physical therapy needs volunteer to work with students in the classroom and the clinic. You can work directly with patients and gain valuable real-world experience.
These kinds of experiences prepare our alumni for their careers — and employers recognize it! With a 100% job placement rate for program graduates, our alumni support patients in hospital systems and clinics within and beyond Indiana, including: Athletico, ATI, NeuroHope, Franciscan Health, and Body One Physical Therapy.
From your first day and beyond, you will serve as a knowledgeable PTA who supports your community and commits to lifelong learning and development.
