Students have a minimum of two scheduled sessions each week.  All sessions begin with a focus on executive functioning and then focus on each individual student's needs.  All of our tutors have bachelor’s degrees or higher.

English 101, English 102, Theater 130, and Spanish 101 (Students can then use replacement courses to meet any additional foreign language requirements).

All freshmen participate in this course as a transition to college and the Build program.  In addition to study skills, it is used to cover topics most college students are expected to figure out on their own (scheduling, career planning, etc.). It also begins getting students comfortable with the Director, using Build and their accommodations.

Students can receive 0-3 credits for working on the Social, Academic, and Career skills they are expected to learn, practice and utilize through social lessons and activities with Build and across the UIndy campus.

Students have the opportunity to participate in one-to-two social lessons each week. One focuses on the skills necessary to get through job interviews, get (and keep) a job and live independently. The second choice is offered second semester and is focused on interpersonal skills necessary to date and maintain relationships.

Each week there are scheduled activities that students can participate in through Build including breakfasts, lunches, dinners, game nights, attending sporting events, plays, special campus activities, etc. There is a group chat that students can join that encourages additional interactions as students adapt to campus life.

Each semester, students are expected to meet with the director to create their schedule utilizing the students strengths and interests.

Students receive classroom and test taking accommodations through Build.  They also have access to the Testing Center.

Students have access to Kurzweil to read alternative format books, Smart Pens for note taking, etc.

Disability Resources provides free, reasonable and appropriate accommodations to  students according to Sec. 504 and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Students are responsible for sharing and utilizing their accommodations as well as any support offered to all students on the UIndy campus.

Build is a fee-for-service program that offers vastly more support to our students.  Build coaches students through the steps of self-advocacy and learning. Build provides individualized support that is ongoing. We try to create a nurturing family environment where the students feel they belong and have a safe place to grow.

Build typically has around 65 students in the program. Students that enroll in Build meet the criteria to be accepted to UIndy and are diagnosed with any disability that interferes with learning. This can include, but is not limited to: specific learning disabilities, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mental health issues or autism spectrum disorder.

The Build fee is $3,500 per semester or $7,000 per year.

Most students do stay in Build during their entire time at UIndy. However, some students find that they do not need the additional support once they transition to college or join later when they struggle to transition to college.

We really encourage all of our students to live on campus, but some do commute from home. Before the freshmen year, we share a list of students that choose to have their information shared to look for possible roommates within the Build community.

As students finish their freshmen year, if they find that the Build students are their primary friend group, many choose to live in East Hall.

Build assumes that students can independently get themselves to classes and tutoring sessions. We also assume that students can do work independently. Build was not made for students to sit beside someone to complete every assignment.
