Services in the WRiting Lab
Consulting
Tutors teach techniques of writing an essay with a sound thesis, thorough support, and clear organization. They will review any kind of written communication: compositions, research papers, journal articles, lab reports, and job and graduate school applications. Our tutoring staff primarily consists of undergraduate peer tutors, but there is also a small staff of graduate-level tutors who work exclusively with our master’s and doctoral students.
Conferences, available in-person and online, are free of charge for UIndy students, faculty, and staff. They can be easily scheduled using our online scheduling system by visiting our My UIndy site and clicking the "Schedule Appointment" button.

Materials
The Writing Lab library contains rhetoric textbooks, guides for writing research papers, grammar handbooks, grammar exercises, and pamphlets.
Conversation Circles
Conversation Circles offer UIndy international students opportunities to practice spoken English, learn more about the University of Indianapolis, meet other English speakers, and feel more confident and fluent about using English for social and academic situations while in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. English-speaking volunteer tutors lead small groups for weekly hour-long conversations with emphasis on communication (including slang and idioms) and cultural exchange.
Conversation Circles offer a chance to meet interesting people from around the world, gain intercultural experience, explore language-learning, laugh, and practice English.
Conversation Circles meet online via Google Meet. If you would like more information about Conversation Circles please contact the Writing Lab’s Associate Director, Dawn Hershberger (hershberger@uindy.edu).

Workshops
The Writing Lab offers three workshops annually in conjunction with the Academic Success Center’s Secrets of Success (SOS) workshop series: Conquering the Blank Page, Succeeding on Essay Exams, and Tips for Writing Research Papers. Information about these workshops can be found on the Academic Success Center’s SOS workshop schedule. Also, in conjunction with the Professional Edge Center, we offer an annual workshop on writing personal statements for graduate school applications.
