Conditions Governing Use of Photographic Reproductions

  1. Permission to use photographic reproduction from University of Indianapolis Frederick D. Hill Archives is granted for “one-time only” Any subsequent or additional use (including reprints, second editions, special editions, editions in different languages, videotape editions of television broadcasts, etc) must be applied for in writing and is subject to additional use fees.
  2. Proper and full credit must be The basic credit line is: Courtesy of University of Indianapolis Frederick D. Hill Archives. When provided, photographers’ names, must also be included in the credit.
  3. With printed matter, it is preferred that the credit line appear on the same or facing page as the illustration. It is mandatory that each item be credited individually.
  4. One complimentary copy for each publication in which photographic reproductions appear shall be furnished to the University of Indianapolis Frederick D. Hill Archives.
  5. Changes to the appearance of the original (such as cropping, superimposition, tinting, retouching, digital enhancement, etc) are not allowed without permission from the Frederick Hill Archives. If such permission is granted, changes to the appearance of the original item must be indicated in the accompanying caption or label.
  6. Materials reproduced as dust jackets are subject to higher use fees.
  7. Reproductions used in advertisements for publications that contain that specific image are subject to both publication and advertising use fees.
  8. In authorizing the publication of a reproduction, University of Indianapolis Frederick D. Hill Archives surrenders neither its own right to publish, nor its right to grant permission for others to publish.

Notice: Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purpose in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.

Shipping and Handling

Charges for shipping and handling are $7.00 per order for sending via United Postal Service Registered mail within the United States and Canada.
