Biomedical Sciences Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
Drive Biomedical Discovery.Offered through the Biology Department, the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Certificate at UIndy provides an excellent pathway for students pursuing admission to professional schools–including medical, osteopathic, chiropractic, dental, optometry, physical therapy, and veterinary programs. This certificate is designed to help students strengthen their academic credentials, enhance their résumés, and improve their competitiveness for admission and future success in their chosen field.
By directly studying humans at both the gross and cellular level, students can gain a deep understanding of anatomical structure and function. Through experiential learning, students engage in hands-on experiences that allow them to learn valuable skills and apply their knowledge in real-life situations. Students who want to continue to build their credentials can apply all courses which have been successfully completed for this certificate to an MS in Anatomical Sciences.
About the Biomedical Sciences Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
Program Length & Format
This certificate program is 22 credit hours and can be completed part-time or full-time in one year. Courses are offered in a traditional face-to-face format during the day.
Courses
A grade of B- or higher is required in all courses applying toward the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Certificate, and an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for successful program completion.
- BIOL 510 Human Gross Anatomy I (5 credit hours)
- BIOL 511 Human Gross Anatomy II (5 credit hours)
- BIOL 505 Human Physiology (4 credit hours)
- BIOL 515 Neuroscience (4 credit hours)
- Choice of either:
- BIOL 516 Histology (4 credit hours)
- BIOL 523 Developmental Biology (4 credit hours)
When can I start?
Courses begin in May or August.
Biomedical Sciences Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Admission Requirements
To apply to the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Certificate program, students must submit:
- A UIndy graduate application
- $30 application fee
- Official transcripts from each university or college attended
- Three (3) reference letters, at least of which one must be from someone familiar with your work or with you as a student
- A one to two page personal statement that outlines career goals and your reasons for applying to the program
- Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores, submitted by the testing agencies (Note: standardized test scores are not required if your undergraduate GPA is above a 3.2)

Official scores from either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) are required for all international applicants. The TOEFL or IELTS cannot substitute for the GRE or MCAT.

International students for whom English is not their first language, and/or who did not attend an English-speaking university must provide one of the following as proof of English proficiency:

TOEFL: a minimum score of 79

Please note that international applicants must be part of a degree-granting program in order to be eligible to obtain an I-20 and F-1 visa. This program is not degree-granting, but may be combined with enrollment in a degree-granting program.
