UIndy Guidelines for International Travel
Safeguards Against Infectious Disease Outbreaks
The University of Indianapolis continually monitors outbreaks of infectious diseases throughout the world. Although the risk of contagion in the United States from areas of widespread infection remains very low at this time, enhanced surveillance and infection prevention are wise precautions. Toward this end, UIndy has established the following guidelines for our campus community.
- Official UIndy Travel to Affected Areas
The University of Indianapolis does not authorize official travel to nations identified by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention with a Warning Level 3, urging avoidance of nonessential travel. Please see the CDC website for a current listing of these countries. - Personal Travel Plans
- Community members are strongly advised to defer all nonessential travel to these
- In the case of countries bordering areas of widespread infection, it is strongly recommended that members of the UIndy campus community defer travel until current health emergencies are resolved.
- Coming to UIndy Campus from Affected Regions
- Individuals traveling to the UIndy campus from countries identified by the CDC with a Warning Level 3 for outbreaks of infectious disease should contact the Health & Wellness Center for consultation prior to arriving on

317-497-6500 - UIndy community members traveling from countries near areas of widespread transmission or countries experiencing more localized transmission of infectious disease, and also those who have been in close proximity with travelers returning from such areas, should self-monitor as follows:
- For 21 days after returning, travelers should check their temperature twice daily and report any fever or other new symptoms to the appropriate health center.
- Symptoms of infectious disease may include fever measuring 100.5 degrees F or higher, severe headache, joint or muscle aches, weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or loss of appetite.

- During the 21 days of self-‐monitoring, community members who feel they may have been exposed to an infectious disease should avoid large gatherings and public

If you are an ill traveler, displaying any of the symptoms indicating infectious disease, DO NOT REPORT TO WORK OR SCHOOL OR ATTEND ANY FUNCTIONS, especially if you have a fever with temperature measuring 100.5 degrees F (38.5 degrees C) or higher. First, contact the appropriate health center for consultation.
