Residence Hall Rooms & Roommates

Single rooms
East Hall and Roberts Hall have single rooms. These buildings are open to all upper-class students (sophomore-senior). Single rooms in the other residence halls are only available if extra space exists. There is an additional charge per semester for a single room.
Students with disabilities may request a single room as an accommodation for their disability pursuant to UIndy's documentation guidelines. UIndy will make an individualized assessment of any such request and, if determined necessary, will provide that student with a single room. UIndy will make reasonable modifications to its room rate structure to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability.
Handicap accessible rooms
Cory Bretz Hall, Central Hall, East Hall and Roberts Hall all have rooms that are accessible for disabled students.
Changing rooms or residence halls
Housing adjustment requests may be made by contacting the residence hall staff after the first two weeks of classes and will be accommodated as space is available.
Early arrival
Only students who are approved through campus organizations, offices, or athletic teams will be permitted to move in prior to move-in day.
Roommate assignments
In most cases, roommates for first-year students are assigned. If a specific roommate is not requested, students are assigned a roommate based upon their housing deposit date and the information provided on their application. Students may not request to live with someone of a specific race or nationality. Living with students from different backgrounds complements the classroom education. Residence hall assignments are consistent with the University’s commitment to a stated policy of nondiscrimination.
If a specific roommate is requested, we will make every effort to accommodate that request, though they are not guaranteed. The requests must be mutual, and will be honored on a space-available basis. We honor roommate preferences before residence hall preferences, so both persons should request the same residence hall. Returning students have the option to sign up for their same room, or with specific roommates for different rooms or halls during the spring semester of each year.
Changing roommates
After housing assignments are sent out, it is very difficult to change roommates. If roommates are have difficulty getting along, we encourage them to work with each other and residence life staff to work out the problems. However, housing adjustment requests can be made by contacting residence hall staff after the first two weeks of classes and they will work with you to address the situation.
