Your UIndy License Plate Purchase Supports UIndy Scholarships
Show your Greyhound pride while on the roads! The UIndy license plate can be used on your passenger motor vehicle, motorcycle, recreational vehicle (RV), or truck with a declared gross weight of not more than 11,000 pounds.
When you get a distinctive UIndy license plate through the BMV, you will not only be showing your Greyhound pride, but you will also be supporting students! $25 of your $40 annual distinctive plate fee will be sent to the University of Indianapolis to support student scholarships for Indiana students. To get a UIndy license plate when you renew, order your plate today on the BMV website or visit your local license branch. If it is not time for your plate renewal, but you'd like to switch to UIndy license plate, please visit a BMV license branch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this new plate design available to purchase?
In 2018, a new UIndy plate design was launched. The new design will print for all license plate transactions processed that result in the issuance of a NEW metal license plate.
I already have a UIndy plate. Will I automatically receive the new UIndy plate when I renew my license plates?
No. If your vehicle is currently registered with a University of Indianapolis license plate you will not receive the newly designed license plate until a new metal license plate is scheduled to be issued. A new plate is issued by the BMV after 7 years.
I can’t wait, I want to switch from my current plate to the new UIndy plate now! Is this possible?
Yes! You may switch plate types during your current registration year by visiting any BMV license branch and paying a plate change fee of $9.50. If you don’t currently have a UIndy plate you will also be asked to pay the annual special group fee of $40, $25 of which is given to the University to support Indiana student scholarships.
What does the money from the license plates support?
$25 of your $40 specialty plate fee will be sent to the University of Indianapolis to support student scholarships for Indiana students.
