UIndy School of Occupational Therapy

Your Future in Occupational Therapy, Your Way.

At the University of Indianapolis, we don’t believe in a "one-size-fits-all" education. Whether you’re a career-changer, a working professional, or a traditional student ready to dive in, we’ve designed our pathways to fit your life—not the other way around.

Master of Occupational Therapy 2-day/week program: Flexibility for real life

Balance your passion with your paycheck.

Designed for the returning student, the busy parent, or the practicing OTA/PTA with a bachelor’s degree, this program respects your time. Instead of an overwhelming course load, you focus on 2–3 classes per semester.

  • On-Campus Commitment: Thursdays and Fridays
  • The Timeline: 2.5 years of in-person learning, followed by 24 weeks of full-time clinical experiences.
  • The Result: A Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) earned without putting your life on hold.

UIndy OTD/MOT Choice: The Power to Decide

Start together, then choose your destination.

Not sure if you want a Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) or an Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD)? You don’t have to decide today. Our Choice Program allows you to start your journey as a traditional full-time student and make your final decision during your second semester.

  • The Pace: A traditional, immersive full-time experience (7–10 classes per semester).
  • The Pivot Point: In your second semester, you choose:
    • MOT Choice: You complete an additional 2 semesters of in person learning, followed by 24 weeks of full-time clinicals before graduation in December.
    • OTD Choice: You complete an additional 3 semesters of in person learning, followed by 24 weeks of full-time clinicals, and a 14 week Doctoral Capstone before graduation in May.

MOT vs. OTD

What’s the difference? The MOT 2-day/week program and MOT Choice Pathway both have a focus on evidence-based practice, while the OTD focus is on applied research. MOT 2-day/week program classes are offered on Thursdays and Fridays, allowing for working professionals to remain in their jobs while going to school. The OTD and MOT Choice Pathway are traditional programs with classes offered during the weekdays. Graduates of both MOT and OTD programs are equally prepared for entry-level occupational therapy practice.

However, OTD graduates will have more experience with program development, leadership, and advocacy. In addition, students in the OTD program will complete one additional rotation, the Doctoral Capstone. Successful completion of a degree from either entry level degree program, will make an individual eligible for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam and, in turn, state licensure. UIndy is committed to continuing to educate and develop outstanding occupational therapy practitioners now and for many years to come.
