Applied Sociology 4+1 Program
Shape tomorrow's world. The Applied Sociology 4+1 program, available to undergraduate sociology majors, sociology minors, and criminal justice majors, which allows students to complete both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years. These programs are sometimes called a BA/MA program.
About the Applied Sociology 4+1 Program
4+1 students typically take 12 credit hours in Applied Sociology while still completing their bachelor's degrees. Some of these courses directly substitute for an undergraduate class (e.g., students often take graduate research methods instead of undergraduate research methods) while others transfer in as electives. Students should know that only 12 credit hours can double-count between the graduate and undergraduate degrees. That means that all undergraduate students must earn at least 108 unique credits between the 100-400 level toward their 120 credit hours for the bachelor's degree.
Any undergraduate student can take up two graduate classes (with permission) as an undergrad. So, after the first two grad classes, students will go ahead and officially apply to the MA in Applied Sociology program while still in undergrad. This allows them to take the third and fourth grad classes for the 4+1 without issue.
Additionally, in order to be able to get all the requirements in, 4+1 students take one fewer elective classes than MA students for a total of 33 graduate credit hours.

While you’re in undergrad, you pay your tuition and fees as usual, and these classes are covered by that. The year of graduate coursework is not covered by any undergraduate scholarships, but there are special loans available to grad students. We encourage you to talk to financial aid about any specific questions you may have.
