UIndy Risk Management and Insurance

Supporting a safe and welcoming environment for the campus community

Our Mission

Risk Management manages loss exposures at the University of Indianapolis by identifying the types of losses faced by the University and deciding how to handle these losses through a combination of insurance, risk avoidance, risk transfers and effective claims management of the losses that do occur.

We recognize that the University, by its very nature, is a constantly changing, dynamic entity. Our aim is to protect the University, not by avoiding the various actions that make the University function as a University, but rather by bringing about a realization that there can be planning to minimize loss exposure.

Enterprise Risk Management

The Office of Risk Management coordinates the University’s risk management efforts. It provides a framework and processes for the identification, assessment, mitigation and monitoring of risks to the achievement of the University’s mission and goals.

Enterprise Risk Management is a continuous business process that extends the concepts of risk management and includes:

  • Identifying risks across the entire enterprise;
  • Assessing the impact of risks to the operations and mission;
  • Developing and implementing response or mitigation plans; and
  • Monitoring the identified risks and consistently scanning for emerging risks

Insurance

Risk Management serves as the University’s primary liaison with brokers and underwriters to ensure that appropriate insurance coverages are obtained and renewed when required. Risk Management also serves as an insurance resource for the campus community and provides advice on insurance matters and the management and resolution of insurance claims.

When the University enters into contracts for goods or services, the other party often requires evidence of University insurance. If the other party requires the University to list them as an additional insured, please complete and submit the Certificate of Insurance Request Form. Risk Management will have a certificate issued within three to five business days. Otherwise, please provide them with the evidence of coverage found below, which is a document that simply advises the University has insurance in place to cover any loses to property, bodily injury, etc.

  • General Evidence of Insurance
  • Property Certificate of Insurance Request Form
  • Student Professional Liability Certificate
    The University of Indianapolis currently maintains professional liability insurance that can be broken down into two components. The first is entity coverage that protects the University and its employees and volunteers while acting within the scope of their job duties.
  • Event Insurance for Third Party Users of UIndy Facilities
    The Tenants' and Users' Liability Insurance Policy (“TULIP”) is designed to provide a general liability insurance option to third party users of UIndy facilities.  It protects both the Facility User (the third party) and the University against claims by third parties who may be injured or experience damage as a result of participating in an event.  Events may range from seminars, receptions, or weddings to festivals and concerts. Note that some events may not be eligible for coverage. TULIP may be purchased ONLY when the event takes place in a UIndy owned facility or property. The third party should visit TULIP website. Enter the UIndy Code 4924-000 and complete the steps to obtain a quote.
