Students participate in lessons, ensemble, masterclasses and workshops throughout the week and perform in a recital on the final day. Director of Keyboard Studies at UIndy, Dr. Ryan Behan, serves as the Artistic Director of the Institute with Dr. Rebecca Sorley also serving on the faculty.

Camp participants of all abilities will engage in various music activities as small groups to focus on areas such as singing, movement to music, instrument playing, and original music creation (songwriting/composition). The students will work with music education and music therapy faculty and students for a fun-filled day of music making no matter the student’s abilities.

UIndy FSC is a residential or commuter camp for strings players entering grades 7 through 12 and those who graduated during the school year of the camp (December 2025 and May 2026). To participate in the camp, players only need a minimum nine months of playing experience on a string instrument (violin/viola/cello/bass). This camp is unique because we focus on alternative music styles, including jazz, rock, hip-hop, and fiddle music. The goal is to provide string players with opportunities to learn and perform musical styles that you will not typically experience in school ensembles. You’ll make new friends whether you stay on campus with us or return home in the evenings. This is a wonderful opportunity to grow as a musician through music classes, jam sessions, rehearsals, sectionals, and a final performance.
