Melody Waring
Assistant Professor & Director of Practicum Education for Social Work
College of Education and Behavioral Sciences
Background
Dr. Waring joined UIndy in March 2025. Prior to this, she practiced rural and home-based social work out of Terre Haute for several years. Dr. Waring began researching how people balance caregiving responsibilities with other roles and responsibilities (work, education, family life, leisure time) during her doctoral dissertation and is currently leading a research project on college student caregivers. Dr. Waring's path to social work began with a mix of nonprofit administration and international development – with a little sprinkling of afterschool tutoring – mostly based in Seattle!
Education
- BA, Lawrence University

- PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work
Favorite thing about UIndy
So many opportunities to be creative, try new things out, get messy! An absolute highlight has been the Research Fellows program where students in their first year get matched with a faculty member to conduct original research. I would have loved this as a student; and I think it might be even just a little more fun as a faculty member, where I'm getting to do the research I love and see it fresh through the eyes of students working with me!
