Master of Social Work Accreditation & Licensure
Accreditation
The MSW program was granted formal candidacy in 2015 and received full accreditation in June, 2019.
UIndy's Master of Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation.
Accreditation of a baccalaureate or master’s social work program by the Council on Social Work Education’ Commission on Accreditation indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of program quality evaluated through a peer review process. An accredited program has sufficient resources to meet its mission and goals and the Commission on Accreditation has verified that it demonstrates compliance with all sections of the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards.
Accreditation applies to all program sites and program delivery methods of an accredited program. Accreditation provides reasonable assurance about the quality of the program and the competence of students graduating from the program.
Professional Licensure Disclosure
The University of Indianapolis Master of Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and meets the requirements to apply for the LSW and LCSW licensing examinations in Indiana. In addition, upon completion of the program and through the Mental Health and Addictions concentration, students will be eligible to apply for the LCACA.
Please be aware that state requirements for licensure may vary, and it is the individual’s responsibility to comply with those requirements. Students who plan to practice in states outside Indiana are encouraged to contact their state’s social work licensing board to identify other requirements for licensure.
Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
MSW graduates are eligible to take the LSW exam immediately after your degree is conferred. Once you pass the LSW exam, you are a Licensed Social Worker in Indiana. You are required to renew your license every two years and are responsible for obtaining 40 continuing education units (CEUs) every two years.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
After you receive your LSW, you must work in the field full-time under a practitioner with an LCSW with documented supervision for a period of two years. After 2 years, you are eligible to take the LCSW exam. Once you pass the LCSW exam, you are a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Indiana. You need to renew your license every two years and are responsible for obtaining 40 continuing education units (CEUs) every two years.
Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor (LCAC)
Students who complete a minimum of 700 practicum hours in the Mental Health and Addictions concentration meet the requirements for a practicum required for the Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor (LCAC) credential. Get more information about the LCAC.
