General Initiatives

Two men shake hands while two others look on.

Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs)

This initiative is structured to encourage faculty to engage in year-long study of a particular topic or issue in teaching, scholarship or service.  Each FLC has 2 co-leaders, who manage the process for their group, and 6-8 participating members from across all disciplinary departments at UIndy. Contact Amanda Miller (milleraj@uindy.edu) for more information.

New Faculty Orientation (NFO)

The Faculty Academy conducts all workshops and meetings for new tenure track faculty, instructors, and associate adjuncts at UIndy.  Orientation begins with a two-day overview of expectations and responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, and service.  It then continues with monthly meetings for all new full time new faculty.  Deans and chairs should contact Amanda Miller (milleraj@uindy.edu) if they wish to have part-time faculty included in either orientation or monthly meetings.

Service Learning Liaison with the Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement

Each year The Faculty Academy partners with the center to sponsor professional development for faculty. Contact Marianna Foulkrod (mfoulkrod@uindy.edu) for more information.

Book Discussion

Each semester a book or set of articles is selected for a faculty discussion group.  The group meets four times during the semester to discuss the book.  Contact The Faculty Academy Personnel for more information.

Leadership

Training for campus leaders and aspiring leaders is facilitated by the Faculty Academy.  See the Leadership link on this webpage for the topics for the series this year.  Contact Amanda Miller (milleraj@uindy.edu) for more information.

Mid-tenure Review

Workshops are offered for faculty members who are preparing for midtenure review to help them create their mini-dossiers with eventual promotion and tenure guidelines in mind. Contact Amanda Miller (milleraj@uindy.edu) for more information.

Teaching and Learning

The Faculty Academy offers numerous workshops in the areas of teaching and learning including various pedagogies, student-centered teaching, and assessment. Additional activities such as panel discussions, book groups, and Teaching Squares also help faculty take their teaching to the next level. One-on-one teaching and learning support is also offered through The Faculty Academy. Contact Amanda Miller (milleraj@uindy.edu) for more information.

Current UIndy Fellowships

Fellowships are a time-limited, special project position for which a faculty member applies and is selected through a competitive process. Fellowships are awarded on a time-limited basis, often between 1-3 years. Some Fellowships may be renewable.
