Dietetic Internship Program Preceptor Locations

UIndy's Dietetic Internship Program (DIP) offers students the opportunity to work in Clinical, Community, and Foodservice Management. Rotation schedules may vary with some interns beginning their experience with Clinical Rotations during the first semester and Community and Foodservice Management rotations during the second semester.

Preceptor ExampleS

The community rotation consists of placements with a variety of preceptors depending on the interns area of interest. Interns interested in sports nutrition may be assigned to work with Lyndsay Langford of St. Vinvcent’s Sports performance clinic or they might work with UIndy's own registered dietitian, Kaitlyn Wong and UIndy Athletics. Those interested in public health may choose to be assigned to the Indiana State Department of Health, Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) through other special partnerships with WIC Divisional Director, Laura Chavez and WIC Deputy Director, Brian Busching, who have the authority to place interns in any of the 30 plus WIC statewide.

The food service management rotations consist of placement at Franklin Township school district which serves 11,400 students daily meals. This is a robust opportunity to experience large scale food production, engage school aged students through food and nutrition. Preceptor Betsey Willard has been a preceptor for more than twenty years and is well equipped to provide interns with diverse food service management experience.

For the 3rd and final rotation, interns could be placed in one of the Community Health Network (CHN) hospitals. These 150+ bed hospital sites provide fully immersive experiences in all facets of patient care from room service orders to bedside nutrition counseling. Interns may work with patients daily according to ACEND's Nutrition Care Process and CHN protocols, all under the individual mentorship of a CHN RD.
