Policy Approval Process

Process diagram summarizing each step in order: development, review, approval, and publication

Step 1: Development

Responsible office determines the issues and identifies the purpose of the policy. Responsible office drafts policy using policy template and submits draft policy to the Policy, Risk and Compliance Committee at policies@uindy.edu.

Step 2: Review

The Policy, Risk, and Compliance Committee distributes draft policies, seeking comments from the University community. A period of public comment lasting 7 days will commence. The committee might engage University Leadership and other offices and committees as needed. Comments are provided to the author.

Step 3: Approval

Once policy review is complete and changes (if necessary) are made, draft policy is presented by the author to the Policy, Risk, and Compliance Committee. Policy will be discussed and will receive a vote. Approved policies are distributed to the Executive Committee.

Step 4: Publication

The Policy, Risk, and Compliance Committee will distribute new and revised policies from policies@uindy.edu to the University community. Policies will be placed on the policies website. Responsible office should monitor compliance, measure effectiveness of policy and review periodically.
