The Provost is the chief academic officer of the University of Indianapolis, serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet and reporting directly to the University President. The responsibilities of the role include the strategic leadership of all academic programs and the University’s teaching and research mission.
The Provost’s Council serves as a valuable guide and resource regarding University-wide issues and strategies. The Council informs the Provost and other members of academic leadership on issues related to the academic life impacting students, staff and faculty. Recommendations from the Council help to inform the President’s Cabinet in matters impacting the intellectual life of the University.
As UIndy’s chief academic officer, the Provost is committed to advancing initiatives designed to increase student retention and graduation, promote active and engaged learning and support faculty and student success. The University of Indianapolis offers 90+ majors, 40+ graduate programs, and five doctoral programs. These programs are the result of generations of planning to educate, train and prepare students for the world ahead of them. The evolution of these programs is critical to the University continuing its role as a significant pipeline of talent to our state, region and country.
The creation of new academic programs is a complex process that can take considerable time to complete. Each new program must align with the strategic priorities of the University as well as the needs of the workforce and competitive climate of specific industries. These decisions are made collectively with close input and participation from faculty, staff and school leadership.
The Provost is responsible for guiding faculty in a strategy that strengthens the culture and outcomes for students. The office helps to foster and sustain interdisciplinary research with external stakeholders, break down walls between departments and colleges and integrate the community in opportunities to help faculty and students learn through hands-on research and service learning.
Working in tandem with this effort is a strategic focus on physical facilities, including laboratory needs, work stations, community projects and partnerships—all necessary elements to maintaining the University’s history of academic excellence and community impact. The Provost enhances educational opportunities, both in and out of the classroom.
