International students must meet a minimum standard in English proficiency (TOEFL score of 79 on 0-120 scale, or IELTS score of 6.5) in order to be admitted to a graduate program at the University of Indianapolis. Admission requirements for Art Therapy Track

This program has prerequisites for admission based on the American Art Therapy Association requirements. All candidates need to have 18 credit hours of art and 12 credit hours of psychology. In addition to the requirements listed above, MHC Art Therapy Track applicants are required to submit an art portfolio. If Art Therapy Track applicants do not meet prerequisites, there may be options to completing them prior to starting the program.

UIndy Entering Freshmen Pre-Art Therapy Majors: Entering Freshman enrolled in UIndy’s Pre-Art Therapy program may be eligible for direct admittance to the MA in Mental Health Counseling with Art Therapy Track after meeting specific requirements.   • A course in Statistics (it is highly recommended that statistics is taken before entering the program; under special circumstances, it can be taken no later than the first semester of the program).

Admissions Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with any undergraduate major, although having a health-related major such as exercise science, public health education, health and physical education teaching, biology, psychology or pre-OT/PT is strongly encouraged as they fulfill the necessary prerequisites for admission into the master's program. (Some University of Indianapolis undergraduates are eligible for early admission after the completion of three years of undergraduate work at the University of Indianapolis. There is also an early assurance program designed for incoming freshmen who have declared pre-athletic training as a concentration in conjunction with any undergraduate major. This option will inform course selections throughout the undergraduate career. With acceptance into the Early Assurance program and fulfillment of all program criteria, students you will be guaranteed admission into the master's degree program in athletic training.)

  • Complete a program application (available sometime in June of each year)

  • Have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Have a minimum grade of "C" in prerequisite courses

  • Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and submit your scores

  • Submit three recommendation letters, including one from a certified athletic trainer

  • Complete a minimum of 50 observation hours with a certified athletic trainer

  • Receive and submit a physical examination by a healthcare provider

  • Recommendation letters may be written by your supervisors, colleagues, peers or former college professors. Individuals providing recommendations must be outside of your immediate family. At least one recommendation should be written by an individual who is familiar with your academic accomplishments as an undergraduate and/or graduate student. 

  • A three-page personal statement highlighting your educational and career goals.

*If the GMAT is taken, a minimum score of 470 (combined total from the verbal and quantitative sections) and a minimum of 4.0 in the analytical writing section is recommended. Students not meeting these standards may be admitted on a conditional basis.

*If the GRE is taken, a minimum score of 290 (combined total from the verbal and quantitative sections) and a minimum 3.0 in the analytical writing section is recommended. Students not meeting these standards may be admitted on a conditional basis.

Additional requirements for international students
  • International students whose undergraduate coursework was not completed at an English-speaking institution must submit an official report of their TOEFL scores. A minimum score of 230 on the computer-based test or 550 on the paper test is required.

MS in Exercise Science (MEXS)

Admission Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution

  • Preferred (not required) qualifications for applicants include courses in Anatomy/Physiology, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology.

  • An official transcript for all colleges/universities attended, demonstrating a 3.0 GPA or higher

  • GRE test scores if your undergraduate GPA is below 3.0

  • Record of any current certifications/credentials (e.g., CPT, CSCS, EP-C, etc.)

  • Resume or curriculum vitae

  • A two to three-page, double-spaced personal statement describing your interest in the field of Exercise Science and our program. Also, you will need to identify one or two UIndy Exercise Science faculty members you'd like to align yourself with based on their research area.

  • Indication of your interest in either the Human Performance or the Clinical Exercise Physiology tract

  • Two letters of recommendation.  Recommendation letters may be written by your supervisors, colleagues, peers or former college professors. Admissions Requirements

 

Completed Bachelor's Degree Option
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than occupational therapy or receive a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than occupational therapy by enrollment.
  • Complete all prerequisite coursework by enrollment.
  • Submit a completed application through OTCAS (https://otcas.liaisoncas.com/applicant-ux/#/login) and participate in an interview upon invitation. Top candidates who have completed the process will be offered a position in the class.

Note: There are additional requirements for international applicants.

Early Entry Admission Option: OTD Only

This option allows you to be granted permission to start occupational therapy coursework in your 4th year after the completion of all undergraduate major and core requirements. Students are not officially accepted to the OTD program until they have received their bachelor’s degree. To qualify for this option, you must:

  • Be enrolled in the University of Indianapolis undergraduate programs.
  • Declare a major with a concentration in Pre-OT.
  • Submit a letter from your undergraduate advisor approving that all designated university core, major, and occupational therapy prerequisite courses will be completed prior to your fourth year of college.
  • Apply during your junior year via OTCAS, requesting permission to take courses in the occupational therapy department.
  • Following the completion of your undergraduate degree and two semesters of OT coursework, students then receive official acceptance to the OT program.

 

Early Assurance Admission Option: OTD Only

To be considered for the Early Assurance Admission Program, candidates must be admitted into any undergraduate degree program by the University of Indianapolis and meet the following:

  • High school minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Proficiency in high school math and science courses
  • Declare pre-occupational therapy as a concentration by February 1
  • Early Assurance offers are competitive and will be extended to the most academically qualified students until the limit is reached.

 

Students will be reviewed for early assurance twice per year in December and February. Students will be notified by email if they are awarded an early assurance offer and will need to return the electronic intent form by the date noted in the email in order to secure the early assurance offer.


Once admitted to the Early Assurance Admission program, students must maintain specific academic standards to keep their guaranteed status into the graduate program. These standards include:


If following the Early Entry Option (formerly called 4-1.5), all undergraduate major requirements must be met before entering the graduate program, or if following the bachelor's degree option, the bachelor's degree must be completed before entering the graduate program.

  • Students must complete and maintain a 3.5 GPA in all occupational therapy prerequisite courses before entering the graduate program. (GPAs are checked each semester)
  • A grade of "C" or higher is required in all occupational therapy prerequisite course work. NOTE: Advanced Placement (AP) credits are not accepted as prerequisites for the occupational therapy graduate program.
  • Maintain a cumulative and prerequisite GPA of 3.5 or higher. (GPAs are checked each semester).
  • Students are highly encouraged to participation in sessions offered for Early Assurance OT students by Admissions staff and/or School of OT faculty
  • Participate in an interview for the program. After this interview, the program director will review results and the student will be alerted if there are additional requirements before being granted admission status (i.e. additional observation hours).

  • Official transcripts for all degrees earned. Transcripts should document achievement of a master's or doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • At least two years of recent experience working in a health-related field and hold a current license (if one is required to practice in the student's discipline)
  • Professional experience can be documented through a resume or a curriculum vitae
  • Proof of license can be provided via official documentation from state licensing board
  • 2 professional letters of recommendation (NOTE: The DHSc program requires formal letters from at least two professional references (in addition to the completion of the recommendation form). It is strongly suggested that applicants request letters from individuals who can speak specifically to their demonstrated interest/strengths in education, leadership, and scholarship.)
  • Personal statement, which should be no more than three pages (double-spaced), highlighting your background/experience, educational and career goals, and your specific interest in the DHSc Program at the University of Indianapolis

Admission Criteria for International Students

  • The online format of our program means there is no residency requirement for international students. Our programs do not qualify for or distribute I-20 visas.

  • Students for whom English is their second language must submit TOEFL scores with a minimum of 100 on the internet-based TOEFL. Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)

Eligibility Requirements
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Completion of prerequisite coursework with at least a "C" or better in each course  and minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0. Courses taken on a pass/fail basis or any non-course credit will not count, such as Advanced Placement (AP) credits. 
    • Biological Sciences:
      • Biology: One biology course with lab (3-4 credits)
      • Human Anatomy: This requirement can be met with a one-year sequence combining human anatomy and physiology (6-8 credits), by a single course in human anatomy (3-4 credits), or by a vertebrate morphology course if human anatomy is unavailable at your institution. This course must include a lab.
      • Human Physiology: This requirement can be met with a one-year sequence combining human anatomy and physiology (6-8 credits), by a single course in human physiology (3-4 credits), or by an animal physiology course if human physiology is unavailable at your institution. This course must include a lab.
    • Chemistry: Standard one-year sequence with labs (6-8 credits)
    • Physics: Standard one-year sequence with labs (6-8 credits)
    • Behavioral Sciences: Two courses (6 credits) emphasizing human interactions in some way. Acceptable courses are usually in the areas of psychology, sociology, or cultural anthropology.
    • Statistics: One introductory course (3-4 credits) to include central tendency, variability, correlation, and parametric statistics through analysis of variance. This course should be taken through the math or science department.
  • Completion of baccalaureate degree at an accredited college or university by the time of matriculation into the DPT program, unless one of the following regarding UIndy undergrads applies (Pre-PT)
    • Evidence that the applicant is a UIndy undergraduate student who has or will complete the core requirements of their UG degree and at least 94 credit hours by the end of their junior year prior to matriculation into the DPT program (3+3 track).
    • UIndy students earning direct admission/early assurance to the DPT program must meet specific thresholds during their undergraduate education.

  • Applicants must apply for admission online through the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS)
    • Review the PTCAS website for instructions and fees.
    • All transcripts are submitted via PTCAS, including any dual credit courses.
    • Please note: Transfer credits are not accepted.
  • Application Timeline
    • Applications will be available online on July 1 and must be completed by October 1.
    • Please note: We suggest submitting materials early. PTCAS verification typically takes 4 weeks. Applicants are responsible for confirming that all application materials are uploaded into PTCAS for verification to occur.

  • Recommendations

    • At least one recommendation must be from a licensed physical therapist who the applicant has observed in patient care.

    • Recommendations must be completed using the PTCAS system and requirements.
  • Personal Statement and Supplemental Questions
    • All applicants are required to write a personal statement and answer supplemental questions
    • Personal statements and supplemental questions are completed and submitted using the PTCAS system.
  • Interview
    • After the application deadline, top ranked applicants will be invited for an interview. UIndy students will be guaranteed an interview if they have a prerequisite GPA of 3.5 or higher.
    • Interviews are conducted in person on campus at UIndy. Remote video conference technology can be pre-arranged for applicants with health or travel restrictions.
    • Each interview is scheduled for 20 minutes with a team of two interviewers.

  • Completed online graduate nursing application.

  • Official transcripts of all previous college work. Must have a master’s degree in nursing (MSN) from an NLNAC, ACEN or CCNE accredited program with a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.

  • An unencumbered RN license with eligibility for licensure in Indiana.

  • Successful completion of a graduate level statistics course within the last five years with a grade of B or better. If the course is older than 5 years, you must successfully complete the online statistics module prior to the start of coursework.

  • Advanced practice registered nurses must successfully complete graduate courses in advanced pharmacotherapeutics, advanced pathophysiology, and advanced health assessment prior to admission.

  • Current resume.

  • An essay of 500 words or less addressing your career goals related to the DNP, as well as a topic area for the evidence-based scholarly project.

  • Three recommendation letters specifying your ability to be successful in doctoral coursework. Recommenders may be supervisors, academic professors, work colleagues or others who have worked with you in a professional setting. They must have a minimum of a master’s degree, although a doctoral degree is preferred.
