Transfer Equivalency Guide

Prior to enrolling in courses at UIndy, it is important to find out which course credits may transfer from other institutions. Courses credits taken previously may transfer and could count toward the core curriculum courses required for your degree.

While setting up a meeting with a UIndy admissions counselor is the best and most accurate way to determine which courses will transfer, students from Indiana University Indianapolis and Ivy Tech can use the transfer equivalency application below as a starting point.

Before starting, here are a few important notes:

  • We recommend that you have a copy of your past transcripts available as a resource. Transcripts have important information that you’ll need to use the system effectively, including:
    • course name
    • the term the course was taken
    • the number of credit hours awarded for the course
    • your final grade
  • You can download full instructions on how to use the Transfer Equivalency application here.
  • View "cheat sheet" for schools, majors and degrees.
  • Once you have completed entering your courses, you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to view your transfer equivalency results.
  • The results provided by the Transfer Equivalency system are not an official evaluation.
  • If a course does not show up in the Transfer Equivalency system, it does not necessarily mean it won't actually transfer to UIndy. We encourage all transfer students to set up a meeting with an admissions counselor for a full transfer equivalency evaluation.

New schools are being added to the application system on a consistent basis. Please check back often to see which schools have been added.

Important information to remember when reading your report:*

  1. UIndy only accepts credit earned through courses taken at other regionally accredited institutions.
  2. Courses with a letter grade of “C-“ or above are transferable; the minimum grade requirement for some majors or courses may be a “C.” Courses with grades of “CR” (credit), “S” (satisfactory), or “P” (pass) are not transferable. Grades and GPA are not transferable and will not appear on your official record or be calculated into your UIndy GPA.
  3. Remedial or developmental courses (000-099) are not transferable.
  4. Whenever possible, a transferred course is equated to a specific UIndy course. When a course is suitable for transfer credit but cannot be equated to a particular course, the course has been transferred as a general elective (e.g., ELEC 000) or an elective within an academic discipline (e.g., ART --- or ACCT ---) and will fulfill elective hours toward graduation.
  5. Credit that you have received from another university for placement or proficiency examinations or life experience is not transferable. UIndy will evaluate official score reports from a national testing program, such as CLEP or DANTES. These reports must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office. Credit earned from life experience must be evaluated through the School for Adult Learning Self-Acquired Competency program.
  6. All courses taken to earn an associate’s or bachelor’s degree have been evaluated using UIndy’s curriculum for general education, electives, and majors/minors/concentrations. This practice is done so that a second evaluation is not necessary if you select another major. All courses that are not required for the degree you are pursuing and do not meet the curriculum standard of a UIndy course have been accepted as elective credit.
  7. Transfer credit appears on a student’s academic record, and the hours are included in the student’s earned hours. Grades are not transferable and will not appear on the student’s record or be calculated into the grade point average.
