UIndy offers the unique opportunity to specialize in primary care nursing. The landscape of healthcare is changing to address the multifaceted needs of an aging patient population. The University of Indianapolis and Community Health Network (CHNw) have joined forces to create sustainable solutions to recruit and educate nursing students. Students get hands-on experience of working in primary care clinics through our partnership with Community Health Network.
I think the Ambulatory Class has allowed me to connect with people in the healthcare world outside of the inpatient population. During clinicals, I have seen other ways that RNs contribute to patient care short term and long term. It's given me an insight into future possibilities with my degree and benefitted me in ways I can't express.
Students in the traditional and accelerated BSN programs interested in completing the nursing elective Primary Care courses are eligible to participate after completing NURB 232. Each of the nursing elective courses have 50 hours of clinical practice experience with an assigned primary nurse preceptor from CHNw.
The six additional credits in support courses can be completed at any point in the student’s course of study.
